About IQIM

The Institute for Quantum Information and Matter (IQIM) at Caltech is a National Science Foundation Physics Frontiers Center. IQIM researchers study physical systems in which the weirdness of the quantum world becomes manifest on macroscopic scales. Our research programs span Quantum Information Physics, Topological Quantum Physics, and Quantum Dynamics, with faculty drawn from Caltech’s departments of physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, computer science, and chemistry, and addresses a wide variety of experimental and theoretical research topics. IQIM also conducts outreach programs to introduce K – 12 students and the general public to the wonders of the quantum world.

Initial support of IQIM from 2011 to 2018 as an NSF Physics Frontiers Center was provided by NSF Grant PHY-1125565 and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation (GBMF-2644).

Logos and Acknowledgements

In papers, please acknowledge IQIM using our full name: Institute for Quantum Information and Matter (NSF Grant PHY-1733907). The acknowledgement can vary based on whether IQIM offers full or partial support. An example acknowledgement is:

“We acknowledge funding provided by the Institute for Quantum Information and Matter, an NSF Physics Frontiers Center (NSF Grant PHY-1733907).”

If you have additional funding from other sources, it is appropriate to list those along with IQIM. “We acknowledge funding provided by the Institute for Quantum Information and Matter, an NSF Physics Frontiers Center (NSF Grant PHY-1733907). Additional funding support was provided by PHY-xxxxxxx and NSF-XXXXXX (or other sources such as CERN, etc.)”
